Why conflicts of interest have to be resolved

If any of the panel members that developed the Lyme Disease treatment guidelines two years ago had a financial tie to an entity that would benefit from the denial of CLD (chronic lyme disease), the IDSA would be in biiiiiiig trouble.

The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has agreed to reassess controversial treatment guidelines for Lyme disease after an unprecedented antitrust investigation was launched against the group last year.

Though there were no ties found, and the lawsuit may not be justifiable, this illustrates how important it is to have no declared conflicts.
