National HIV Testing Day

Today, June 27, is National HIV Testing day, when the CDC is encouraging everyone, from age 13 to 64, to get tested for the virus that causes AIDS. Testing should especially be done by those who are at an increased risk of contracting the virus - those with multiple sexual partners, gay and bisexual men, and intravenous drug users. High risk groups should be tested annually, whereas the CDC encourages everyone to be tested at least once in their life.

One-third of HIV-positive individuals are tested too late to take full advantage of preventative AIDS treatments, and approximately one-fifth of the million who are infected don't know it.
