Arthoscopic versus open surgery

Surgery is often thought of as a procedure in which the body is opened up, but for certain types of surgery, such as joint operations, traditional open surgery is becoming the last resort. Arthroscopic surgery utilizes small fiber optic instruments to see inside and around the joint. Major differences exist in both the procedures and risks of open and arthroscopic surgery.
