Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute has found that patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer live longer (to 5 years or more) if they receive simultaneous radiation and chemotherapy, rather than receiving them in sequence as is the current standard. The study, which was published last week in Journal of the National Cancer Institute, may change treatment standards and increase survival for patients with this disease.
