New defense against antibiotic-resistant bacteria
Researchers at Merck have found a new compound in South African soil samples that may result in a new drug for fighting antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. Platensimycin represents a new class of antibiotics and has been found to be effective against MRSA. Though research is ongoing and no drug plans yet on the table, the pharmaceutical company researchers have given the medical community hope in the fight against bacteria.
